- I just don't get this, politicians are in a tizzy because some very wealthy families have decided to have anchor babies. While here for approximately 6 mos or so, they pay their own expenses, completely. They pay for their room and board, doctors visits and then the eventual birth.

The other thing that was different 50 years ago is that we didn't try to educate ALL children. No one cared if minority students or poor students dropped out - they could just go work on the farm or in the factories. We are not exactly comparing apples to apples here.

And there have always been morally bankrupt families - families with alcholic parent, etc, it's just that no one discussed those things back then.
